The licence is still charged for the whole calendar month, and storage is charged at the month's peak size. If you turn backup on again later, it starts over with a new first backup. ## Before you begin - You have restored any files you still need; see [Restore files from a recovery point](/myaccount/cdp-backup/how-to/restore-files-from-a-recovery-point/). - The node is running, and its **Backup Status** in **Manage CDP Backups** reads **Available** or **In-Progress**. - Any running backup has finished. Turning backup off fails while a backup runs. The node's **Backup Task History** tab shows when it ends. ## Turn backup off Turning backup off deletes every recovery point permanently. E2E cannot bring them back. 1. In **Manage CDP Backups**, open the node's **Actions** menu and click **Deactivate Backup**. 2. Click **Deactivate** to confirm. E2E emails the account owner that CDP Backup is deactivated for the node. ## Check that backup is off In **Manage CDP Backups**, the node's **Backup Status** reads **Not Activated**, and its **Actions** menu offers **Activate Backup** again. Backup is now off for the node. To protect it again later, see [Turn on CDP Backup for a node](/myaccount/cdp-backup/how-to/turn-on-cdp-backup/). If **Deactivate Backup** is not available, or turning backup off fails, see [Troubleshooting CDP Backup](/myaccount/cdp-backup/troubleshooting/cdp-backup/#deactivate-backup-is-not-available-or-deactivating-fails).
