--- title: "DBaaS engines and versions" description: "Which MySQL, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL versions a DBaaS instance offers, and what happens when one reaches end of life." content_type: "concept" product: "database" platform: "MyAccount" url: "/myaccount/database/concepts/database-engines-and-versions/" --- # DBaaS engines and versions Each DBaaS instance runs one engine: MySQL, MariaDB, or PostgreSQL. You choose the engine and its version when you create the DBaaS instance; see [Create a DBaaS instance](/myaccount/database/how-to/create-a-database/). ## Versions you can choose You can choose MySQL 8.0; MariaDB 10.6 and 10.11; and PostgreSQL 15.0, 16.0, 17.0, and 18.0. The list changes as versions reach end of life, and the create form always shows the current set. ## End of life When a version reaches end of life, you choose a newer one for new DBaaS instances, and an existing DBaaS instance on it stays exactly as it is. A DBaaS instance keeps its version for as long as it exists, so choose the newest version to get the longest time before end of life. To move an existing DBaaS instance to a newer version, see [Move a DBaaS instance to a newer engine version](/myaccount/database/how-to/move-to-a-newer-engine-version/).
