--- title: "DBaaS limits" description: "Every size, count, and naming limit of a MySQL, MariaDB, or PostgreSQL DBaaS instance, in one table." content_type: "concept" product: "database" platform: "MyAccount" url: "/myaccount/database/concepts/database-limits/" --- # DBaaS limits Plan a DBaaS instance around these limits: how far it grows, how many Read Replicas and VPCs it takes, and which names and passwords it accepts. The connection and statement limits apply to MySQL 8.0, MariaDB 10.6 and 10.11, and PostgreSQL 15 and 18. A parameter group changes the connection limit; see [Common parameter group settings](/myaccount/parameter-group/concepts/common-parameter-group-settings/). ## Size and count | What | Limit | Where you meet it | | ---------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Regions | Delhi and Chennai | [Create a DBaaS instance](/myaccount/database/how-to/create-a-database/) | | Read Replicas | Up to four per DBaaS instance | [Create a Read Replica](/myaccount/database/how-to/create-a-read-replica/) | | VPCs | Up to three per DBaaS instance | [Attach a VPC to a DBaaS instance](/myaccount/database/how-to/attach-a-vpc-to-a-database/) | | Disk | Added in 250 GB steps, up to 4,000 GB in total; each step is permanent | [Expand a DBaaS instance's disk space](/myaccount/database/how-to/expand-database-disk-space/) | | Plan | Moves to a plan with the same or more vCPUs and disk, on the same engine version | [Upgrade a DBaaS instance's plan](/myaccount/database/how-to/upgrade-a-database-plan-or-version/) | | Connections (MySQL and MariaDB) | 151 at once on the DBS.16GB plan (16 GB RAM, 4 vCPU); other plans can differ | - | | Connections (PostgreSQL) | 100 at once on the DBS.16GB plan (16 GB RAM, 4 vCPU), 97 of them for your users; other plans can differ | - | | Statement size (MySQL and MariaDB) | Up to 64 MB for a single statement or row | [Import a database into a DBaaS instance](/myaccount/database/how-to/import-a-database/) | | Prepaid credit | Enough infra credits to run the new DBaaS instance for about 24 hours | [Create a DBaaS instance](/myaccount/database/how-to/create-a-database/) | ## Names and passwords | What | Rule | | --------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | | Instance Name | 1 to 50 characters: letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores | | Database Name | Up to 64 characters; `postgres` is reserved on PostgreSQL, and `mysql` on MySQL and MariaDB | | Username | Lowercase letters and numbers, up to 80 characters; `admin` by default | | Password at creation | 16 to 30 characters, with a digit, an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, and a special character | | Password at reset | 16 to 30 characters that start and end with a letter, with letters, numbers, and ! # _ $ & \* ? @ in between | | Encryption passphrase | 8 to 12 characters, with an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, and a special character | | Master Node Name | Up to 50 characters: letters, numbers, underscores, and hyphens | | Parameter group | A name and a description of up to 50 characters each | ## Snapshots, alerts, and logs | What | Limit | | ------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Snapshot windows | 12 AM to 1 AM, 8 AM to 9 AM, or 6 PM to 7 PM, India Standard Time (IST) | | Lifecycle rule | 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, 15 days, 1 month, 3 month, 6 month, or 1 year | | Failed scheduled snapshot | DBaaS retries it up to five times, and emails you if it still fails | | Alert threshold | **Threshold value (%)**: a number from 10 to 100, for every trigger | | Slow query log | Lists queries that ran longer than two seconds |
