--- title: "Get started with DBaaS" description: "Create a MySQL, MariaDB, or PostgreSQL DBaaS instance from the MyAccount dashboard, then connect to it with a client." content_type: "get-started" product: "database" platform: "MyAccount" url: "/myaccount/database/get-started/" --- # Get started with DBaaS Create a MySQL DBaaS instance in MyAccount and connect to it from your own machine. You need a MyAccount account and, on a prepaid account, enough infra credits to run the instance for about 24 hours. MyAccount creates the DBaaS instance in the region you have selected, Delhi or Chennai. ## Create a DBaaS instance 1. In the sidebar, under **Database**, click **DBaaS**, then click **Create DBaaS**. 2. On **Choose Database Engine**, click **MySQL**. 3. Choose the newest **Database Version**. The DBaaS instance keeps this version for as long as it exists. Then choose the smallest plan that fits from **Select Configuration**. A plan change always moves up to a larger plan, so start small and upgrade when you need more. Under **Instance Pricing**, choose **On-Demand** for hourly billing. 4. In the **Summary** panel, keep the pre-filled **Instance Name** and **Database Name**, or change them. 5. Under **Database Details**, the **Username** is `admin`; keep it, or choose your own in lowercase letters and numbers, up to 80 characters. Enter a **Password**: 16 to 30 characters, with a digit, an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, and a special character. Save the password somewhere safe. If you lose it, reset it from the DBaaS instance's details page. 6. Click **Launch DBaaS**. You return to the DBaaS list. The status reads **Creating**, then **Deploying** while the DBaaS instance finishes setting up, and **Running** once it is ready. Billing starts when the status reads **Deploying**. ## Connect to the DBaaS instance Open the DBaaS instance from the list. On its details page, under **Connection Details**, note its **Endpoint**, **Username**, and **Port**, and check that **Public IP** reads **Attached**. If it reads **Detached**, click **Attach**, then **Attach** again to confirm. Then connect with the `mysql` command-line client: ```bash mysql -h -P 3306 -u -p ``` Replace `` and `` with your DBaaS instance's own values, and enter the password when asked. The `mysql` client uses SSL by default, which the DBaaS instance requires. When the connection works, you see the MySQL prompt. To check the server's certificate as well, use the SSL command in [Connect to a DBaaS instance](/myaccount/database/how-to/connect-to-a-database/#connect-with-ssl-on). ## What to do next - [Connect to a DBaaS instance](/myaccount/database/how-to/connect-to-a-database/): the MariaDB and PostgreSQL connection commands, and every connection option.
