--- title: "Delete a DBaaS instance" description: "Permanently delete a MySQL, MariaDB, or PostgreSQL DBaaS instance, its Read Replicas, and its snapshots." content_type: "how-to" product: "database" platform: "MyAccount" url: "/myaccount/database/how-to/delete-a-database/" topic: ["lifecycle"] --- # Delete a DBaaS instance Delete a DBaaS instance when you have finished with it. Deleting also ends its charge; a stopped DBaaS instance keeps billing until you delete it. ## Before you begin Keep the data you need first. Deleting is permanent, and it also deletes the DBaaS instance's Read Replicas and all its snapshots. To keep the data, restore a snapshot into a new DBaaS instance first, as [Back up and restore a DBaaS instance with snapshots](/myaccount/database/how-to/create-and-restore-a-snapshot/) shows, or export it to your own machine with the engine's dump tool, as [Import a database into a DBaaS instance](/myaccount/database/how-to/import-a-database/) shows. On a committed plan, deleting refunds none of the committed cost. ## Delete it 1. From the DBaaS instance's **More Actions** menu, click **Delete**. 2. In **Delete DBaaS**, check **I understand the associated risk and want to delete the database**. 3. Type the DBaaS instance's **Instance Name** in **Enter name of the cluster to confirm deletion**. 4. Click **Delete**. You return to the DBaaS list, and the DBaaS instance's status shows **Terminating**, then **Terminated**. To start again, see [Create a DBaaS instance](/myaccount/database/how-to/create-a-database/).
