--- title: "Expand a DBaaS instance's disk space" description: "Increase a stopped DBaaS instance's disk space in fixed 250 GB steps, up to 4,000 GB in total." content_type: "how-to" product: "database" platform: "MyAccount" url: "/myaccount/database/how-to/expand-database-disk-space/" topic: ["lifecycle"] --- # Expand a DBaaS instance's disk space Expand a DBaaS instance's disk to give it more room for data, in steps of 250 GB, up to 4,000 GB in total. You pay for the extra space per GB per hour, on top of the plan price. ## Before you begin Stop the DBaaS instance first; see [Start, stop, and restart a DBaaS instance](/myaccount/database/how-to/start-stop-and-restart-a-database/). ## Expand the disk 1. From the DBaaS instance's **More Actions** menu, click **Expand Disk**. 2. In **Upgrade DBaaS Disk space**, choose the **Additional Size**. Each addition is permanent, so size it for the data you expect. 3. Click **Upgrade**. The status reads **Upgrading** while the disk grows, then **Stopped** when the expansion is done. To check the new size, open **Expand Disk** again and read **Current Disk size**. The DBaaS instance now has the extra disk space. Start it again to take connections; see [Start, stop, and restart a DBaaS instance](/myaccount/database/how-to/start-stop-and-restart-a-database/). For more vCPUs or RAM as well, see [Upgrade a DBaaS instance's plan](/myaccount/database/how-to/upgrade-a-database-plan-or-version/). If the DBaaS instance is unreachable after the expansion, see [Troubleshooting DBaaS](/myaccount/database/troubleshooting/database/#the-dbaas-instance-is-unreachable-after-you-expand-the-disk).
