--- title: "Check your domain with Diagnostics" description: "Run Diagnostics on a domain in E2E DNS to see whether it points to E2E's nameservers and whether its records' TTLs are long enough." content_type: "how-to" product: "dns" platform: "MyAccount" url: "/myaccount/dns/how-to/check-your-domain-with-diagnostics/" relationships: {"requires":["/myaccount/dns/how-to/add-a-domain/"]} --- # Check your domain with Diagnostics **Diagnostics** checks whether the internet sends the domain's lookups to E2E's nameservers, and whether its records' TTLs are long enough. Run it after you change the domain's nameservers at your registrar, and whenever the domain does not answer as you expect. ## Before you begin You need the domain on **Manage DNS**; see [Add a domain](/myaccount/dns/how-to/add-a-domain/). ## Run the checks 1. In MyAccount, under **Network**, click **DNS**. In the domain's row, click **Actions**, then **Manage**. 2. Click the **Diagnostics** tab. The checks run when you open the tab. Each one is a row with **Text**, **Result**, and **Fix**. There are three: **Domain Validity**, **Are E2E Networks cloud nameservers authoritative for this domain?**, and **DNS time-to-live**. To run them again, for example a few hours after you change the nameservers, click the refresh button. ## Read the nameserver check **Are E2E Networks cloud nameservers authoritative for this domain?** looks up the domain's nameservers on the public internet, the ones your registrar has. - **Your nameservers point to E2E Networks cloud nameservers.**, with **No fix required.**: at least one of the domain's nameservers is E2E's. The records in MyAccount are the ones the internet uses. - **Your DNS is currently hosted with another provider.**: the check lists the nameservers it found under **Current nameservers are:**, and gives two steps. First, add every record the domain already uses at that provider, so that every name keeps answering after the switch. Then replace the nameservers at your registrar with E2E's. See [Point your domain to E2E nameservers](/myaccount/dns/how-to/point-your-domain-to-e2e-nameservers/). - **Could not find your domain**, with **No fix required**: no nameservers were found for the domain on the public internet, for example because the domain is not registered. Check the spelling, and check the registration with your registrar. A change at your registrar can take up to 48 hours to reach every resolver. Until it does, the check can still show your old nameservers. The check reads **Your nameservers point to E2E Networks cloud nameservers.** as soon as one of the domain's nameservers is E2E's. Set both of E2E's nameservers at your registrar, and only those two, so that every lookup reaches E2E. To list the nameservers your registrar has, run: ```bash dig NS example.com +short ``` When the domain points only to E2E, the output is `ns50.e2enetworks.net.in.` and `ns51.e2enetworks.net.in.`, and nothing else. ## Read the TTL check **DNS time-to-live** flags records with a TTL under 3600 seconds, which is one hour. With none, it reads **TTL values for all records are setup correctly** and **No fix required**. A short TTL makes other DNS servers ask again often. It is useful for a few hours while you move a record to a new address, and not needed after that. To find the records to raise, read the **TTL** column on **Domain Name System Record**, and edit each record under 3600 to 3600 seconds or more. See [Edit a DNS record](/myaccount/dns/how-to/edit-a-dns-record/). For a problem these checks do not explain, see [Troubleshooting DNS](/myaccount/dns/troubleshooting/dns/).
