--- title: "Delete a DNS record" description: "Delete one A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, or SRV record from a domain on E2E DNS in MyAccount, and check that the name no longer answers." content_type: "how-to" product: "dns" platform: "MyAccount" url: "/myaccount/dns/how-to/delete-a-dns-record/" relationships: {"requires":["/myaccount/dns/how-to/add-a-dns-record/"]} --- # Delete a DNS record Delete a record you no longer need, or one you want to replace with a new host name or type. Only that one record goes: if a host name has several values of the same type, such as two A records or three MX records, the others stay. ## Before you begin Check that nothing still uses the name. A deleted record stops answering on E2E's nameservers within about 10 seconds, and visitors, mail, or services that use it stop reaching it once their cached copy expires. ## Delete the record Note the record's value from the records list before you delete it. To bring a record back later, you add it again with that value. 1. In MyAccount, under **Network**, click **DNS**. In the domain's row, click **Actions**, then **Manage**. 2. On **Domain Name System Record**, in the record's row, click **Actions**, then **Delete**. 3. In **Delete Record**, which asks **Are you sure you want to delete record?**, confirm. The message reads **The domain was deleted successfully.**, though only the record is gone; the domain and its other records stay. The SOA and NS records stay with the domain, so their **Actions** menu is not available. ## Check that the record is gone About 10 seconds after you delete it, ask an E2E nameserver for the name and type: ```bash dig @ns50.e2enetworks.net.in old.example.com A +short ``` An empty output means the record is gone. If the host name had other values of the same type, the output lists only those. To add a replacement, see [Add a DNS record](/myaccount/dns/how-to/add-a-dns-record/).
