--- title: "Edit a DNS record" description: "Change the value or the TTL of an A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, or SRV record on E2E DNS in MyAccount, and check that the change is live." content_type: "how-to" product: "dns" platform: "MyAccount" url: "/myaccount/dns/how-to/edit-a-dns-record/" relationships: {"requires":["/myaccount/dns/how-to/add-a-dns-record/"]} --- # Edit a DNS record Edit a record to point a name at a new address, change a mail server or a TXT value, or change how long other DNS servers keep a copy of it. E2E's nameservers answer with the change within about 10 seconds. The record's type and host name stay as they are. To change either, delete the record and add a new one. See [Delete a DNS record](/myaccount/dns/how-to/delete-a-dns-record/) and [Add a DNS record](/myaccount/dns/how-to/add-a-dns-record/). ## Before you begin - You know the record's new value or TTL. - If you are moving a name to a new address, you have lowered its TTL a day ahead, so that the change reaches everyone sooner. Other DNS servers keep the old answer until its TTL runs out. ## Change the record 1. In MyAccount, under **Network**, click **DNS**. In the domain's row, click **Actions**, then **Manage**. 2. On **Domain Name System Record**, in the record's row, click **Actions**, then **Edit**. The **Edit Record** dialog shows the record's type and host name. 3. Change what you need: - A or AAAA: the TTL and the address. - CNAME: the TTL and **Point To**. - MX: the TTL, **Priority**, and **Mail Server**. - TXT: the TTL and the **TXT** text. - SRV: **Target**, **Priority**, **Weight**, **Port**, and the TTL. 4. Click **Submit**. **DNS Record type has been updated successfully.** confirms the change. **Something went wrong while updated the dns record type!.** means it was refused; check the value, as described in [Add a DNS record](/myaccount/dns/how-to/add-a-dns-record/), and try again. Records with the same host name and type share one TTL. Changing the TTL of one changes it for all of them, such as every MX record on the domain. The SOA and NS records stay as E2E created them, so their **Actions** menu is not available. ## Check the change Ask an E2E nameserver for the record about 10 seconds after you save: ```bash dig @ns50.e2enetworks.net.in www.example.com A +short ``` The output is the new value. Use the record's own name and type in place of `www.example.com` and `A`. From elsewhere on the internet, `dig www.example.com A +short` shows the new value once the old answer's TTL has run out. If the change does not show, see [Troubleshooting DNS](/myaccount/dns/troubleshooting/dns/).
