--- title: "Get started with Saved Images" description: "Save a node's root disk as an image, find it on the Saved Images page, and launch a new node from it, in one path." content_type: "get-started" product: "images" platform: "MyAccount" url: "/myaccount/images/get-started/" --- # Get started with Saved Images Save a node as an image, find it on the **Saved Images** page, and launch a new node from it. When you are done, you will have a reusable template and a second node built from it, ready to go the same way. ## Before you begin You need a node to save. Any node can be saved as an image except a firewall or spot node. ## Save a node as an image Open the node's **Actions** menu and click **Save Image**. If your series needs the node powered off first, power it off when asked; otherwise the save starts right away. Name the image using only letters, digits, underscores, and hyphens, 50 characters or fewer. Click **Save Image** to start. The image is a copy of the node's root disk, so it carries the operating system, applications, and configuration you set up. To reuse data stored on an attached volume, reattach that volume on each node you launch. You are charged for the storage the image uses once it is ready. The save takes a few moments, and the node stays busy until it finishes. ## Find the image on the Saved Images page Once the save finishes, open **Storage > Saved Images** in MyAccount. Your new image is in the list, showing **Ready** (or **Available**) in the **State** column; that means it is ready to use. You can search for it by name or filter the list by a tag, and you will see how many nodes and scale groups run from it. ## Launch a new node from the image From the image's **Actions** menu, click **Create Node**. The create-node flow opens with your saved image as the base. Choose a plan in the same region, with the same operating system, version, and category as the image, and with root disk at least as big as the image. The rest of the create-node flow works like any node. Review the summary and launch. Your new node starts from the saved image, already set up the same way as the node you saved it from, with no repeat configuration. ## What to do next with your saved image - [Save a node as an image](/myaccount/node/how-to/save-a-node-as-an-image/): every detail of the save step, including which series can save while running. - [Create an image from a snapshot](/myaccount/node/how-to/create-an-image-from-a-snapshot/): build a reusable image from a saved point in time instead of the node's current state. - [Import a custom image](/myaccount/images/how-to/import-a-custom-image/): bring an image you built elsewhere onto the platform. - [Export an image to Object Storage](/myaccount/images/how-to/export-an-image/): keep a copy of the image as a file, or move it to the other region. If the image will not launch a node, or stays in **Creating**, see [Troubleshooting Saved Images](/myaccount/images/troubleshooting/images/).
