--- title: "Delete a cluster" description: "Delete an E2E Kubernetes cluster with its pools, persistent volumes, and private LB IPs, and stop the charge for its public service IPs." content_type: "how-to" product: "kubernetes" platform: "MyAccount" url: "/myaccount/kubernetes/how-to/delete-a-cluster/" topic: ["billing-and-lifecycle"] relationships: {"requires":["/myaccount/kubernetes/how-to/create-a-cluster/"]} --- # Delete a cluster Delete a cluster when you have finished with it. Deleting a cluster also deletes its worker node pools, its persistent volumes, the ones your claims created from inside the cluster included, its private LB IPs, and the security groups E2E made for it. Its public service IPs are kept: they go back to your reserved IPs. ## Before you begin - The cluster reads **Running**; **Delete** is available then. For a cluster that stays on **Creating**, see [Troubleshooting Kubernetes](/myaccount/kubernetes/troubleshooting/kubernetes/#the-cluster-stays-on-creating). - You have copied out any data you want to keep from the cluster's persistent volumes. See [Use persistent volumes](/myaccount/kubernetes/how-to/use-persistent-volumes/). - If you are a team member, your role has the delete permission for Kubernetes. ## Delete the cluster For a committed master node or pool, the dialog warns that it is reserved until its end date. 1. In MyAccount, under **Compute**, click **Kubernetes**. 2. In the cluster's row actions, click **Delete**, or open the cluster and click **Delete** there. **Delete Kubernetes** opens. 3. Under **Type the name of the Cluster to confirm deletion**, type the cluster's name. **Delete Kubernetes** becomes available. 4. Click **Delete Kubernetes**. You see **Kubernetes cluster deletion request initiated, the confirmation will be sent to you via mail.** The cluster reads **Terminating** while it is deleted, and then leaves the list. A cluster that reads **Terminating** cannot be opened; it shows **Cluster is in Terminating state**. For a committed master node or pool, an early delete keeps the committed term's charge. ## Understand what is still billed - Each master and worker node is billed until its machine is removed. - Every persistent volume is billed until it is removed from storage. - Public service IPs are billed until you release them, including after the cluster is deleted. ## Release the public service IPs The cluster's public service IPs are now reserved IPs in your account. If you no longer need them, delete them to stop their charge; see [Delete a reserved IP](/myaccount/reserved-ip/how-to/delete-a-reserved-ip/). To use one on another cluster instead, attach it to that cluster's **LB IP Pool**; see [Expose a service with a load balancer](/myaccount/kubernetes/how-to/expose-a-service-with-a-load-balancer/). The cluster is gone. To build a new one, see [Create a cluster](/myaccount/kubernetes/how-to/create-a-cluster/).
