--- title: "Delete a load balancer" description: "Delete an E2E load balancer in MyAccount to stop its charges, and keep its public IP as a reserved IP if you want the address." content_type: "how-to" product: "load-balancer" platform: "MyAccount" url: "/myaccount/load-balancer/how-to/delete-a-load-balancer/" topic: ["operate"] relationships: {"requires":["/myaccount/load-balancer/how-to/create-an-application-load-balancer/"]} --- # Delete a load balancer Delete a load balancer when you no longer need it. On hourly billing, deleting it stops its charges. Traffic to its address then stops reaching your servers. Your backend servers and scale groups stay as they are. To keep the load balancer's settings and stop its traffic for a while instead, power it off. Billing continues while it is powered off; see [Power off, start, or upgrade a load balancer](/myaccount/load-balancer/how-to/power-off-start-or-upgrade/). ## Before you begin - The load balancer has left **Creating**, **Deploying**, **Upgrading**, or **Deleting**. **Actions** is available once it has. - You have moved your domain's DNS records off the load balancer's IP, or you are ready for its traffic to stop. - You have decided whether to keep the public IP. Without a reservation, the address is released with the load balancer. - Your role in the project has the delete permission for **Load Balancers**. The load balancer's charges continue while it is in **Creating**. If it stays there, contact support to have it cleared; see [The load balancer stays on Creating, Deploying, or Upgrading](/myaccount/load-balancer/troubleshooting/load-balancer/#the-load-balancer-stays-on-creating-deploying-or-upgrading). ## Delete the load balancer Deleting a load balancer is permanent. It also deletes its BitNinja licence and its alerts. On a committed load balancer, you have already paid for the whole committed period, so the charges stay as they are when you delete early. 1. In MyAccount, under **Compute**, click **Load Balancers**. In the load balancer's row, open **Actions**, and click **Delete**. 2. (Optional) To keep the public IP of an external load balancer, tick **Reserve the IP**, followed by the address, in **Delete Load Balancer**. A reserved IP has a monthly charge. An IP that is already reserved stays reserved. 3. Click **Delete**. **Load Balancer deleted successfully** shows, and the load balancer reads **Deleting** until it is gone. If **Error in deleting Load Balancer, please try again** shows instead, refresh the list and try again. ## Check that the load balancer is gone The load balancer leaves the **Load Balancers** list once it is gone, and its hourly charges stop. A reserved IP you kept is listed under [Reserved IP](/myaccount/reserved-ip/), and is billed until you release it. To use it on a new load balancer, choose it under **IPV4** when you create one. If deleting fails again, see [Troubleshooting Load Balancer](/myaccount/load-balancer/troubleshooting/load-balancer/). To delete a load balancer from a script, see [Delete Load Balancer](/api/myaccount/operations/delete-load-balancer/) in the API reference.
