See [Public and private IPs](/myaccount/node/concepts/public-and-private-ips/) for how it differs from your node's default address or a reserved one. ## Attach a Floating IP A Floating IP can be attached to up to four resources at once. Attaching it to this node adds the node to that list, and the others keep it too. If the address is already on four, detach it from one of them first. 1. Open the node's **Network** tab. In the **Floating IP** section, click **Click here**. 2. In **Attach Floating IP**, choose the address from **Select Floating IP**. If other nodes already use it, the dialog lists them, so you can see where else the address points. 3. Click **Attach IP**. The address now shows in the node's **Floating IP** section. ## Detach a Floating IP In the **Floating IP** section, click **Detach Floating IP** next to the address and confirm. The address stays reserved to your account, ready to attach to another node. If the attach or detach link does nothing, see [Troubleshooting node networking and connectivity](/myaccount/node/troubleshooting/networking-and-connectivity/#ip-address-will-not-attach-or-detach).
