It works on an [unlocked](/myaccount/node/concepts/node-states/#locked-or-in-recovery-mode) node. 1. Open the node's **Node Security** tab. 2. Enter a new password: 16 to 30 characters, with a number, an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, and a special character. 3. Confirm the change. Use the new password the next time you connect. You will get an email with the new password and the IP address the change came from. Keep it: it is your record of the change, in case someone else made it. On a Linux node, you manage how you get in with SSH keys instead; see [Add an SSH key to a node](/myaccount/node/how-to/add-an-ssh-key-to-a-node/). If you are locked out of a node, see [Troubleshooting node security and access](/myaccount/node/troubleshooting/security-and-access/#i-forgot-my-nodes-root-password-or-lost-my-ssh-key).
