--- title: "Share an object with a presigned URL" description: "Generate a time-limited link to let someone download an object, or upload one, without handing out your access key." content_type: "how-to" product: "object-storage" platform: "MyAccount" url: "/myaccount/object-storage/how-to/share-an-object-with-a-presigned-url/" topic: ["manage-objects"] relationships: {"requires":["/myaccount/object-storage/how-to/create-a-bucket/"]} --- # Share an object with a presigned URL A presigned URL grants time-limited access to one object, for a download or an upload, without sharing your access key or making the bucket public. ## Generate the URL Open the bucket's **Actions** menu (or an object version's own menu, for one specific version) and select **Generate Presigned URL**. Choose the type: - **Download** lets whoever has the link retrieve the object. - **Upload** lets whoever has the link add a new object at that path. Set an expiry from 1 second to 7 days, then click **Generate URL**. ## Share the object The URL appears in the dialog. It is the object's address followed by a long signature, and looks like this: ```text https://objectstore.e2enetworks.net//?X-Amz-Algorithm=AWS4-HMAC-SHA256&X-Amz-Credential=...&X-Amz-Expires=86400&X-Amz-Signature=... ``` Copy the whole URL and send it however you would share any link. To check it, open it in a private browser window: a download link opens or downloads the file with no sign-in. Until it expires, the link works for anyone who has it, including anyone it is forwarded to, so for anything sensitive choose the shortest expiry that works. Once it expires, it stops working; generate a new one if you need more time. To share a whole bucket instead, see [Make a bucket public](/myaccount/object-storage/how-to/make-a-bucket-public/). If generating the URL fails with an expiry error, see [Troubleshooting E2E Object Storage](/myaccount/object-storage/troubleshooting/object-storage/#generating-a-presigned-url-failed-the-expiry-time-should-range-from-1-second-to-7-days).
