Each group is for one engine and version, and that choice sets which parameters the group offers. ## Before you begin Know the engine and version of the DBaaS instances you will attach the group to. ## Create a parameter group 1. In the sidebar, under **Database**, click **Parameter Group**, then click **Add Parameter Group**. 2. In **Parameter Group Family**, choose the engine and version the group is for, such as MySQL-8.0. 3. Enter a **Group Name** and a **Description**, each up to 50 characters. 4. Click **Create**. You now have a parameter group, ready to attach to a DBaaS instance; see [Attach a parameter group to a DBaaS instance](/myaccount/parameter-group/how-to/attach-a-parameter-group-to-a-database/). ## Edit its parameters 1. In the group's row menu, click **Edit Parameter Group**, then **Edit parameters**. 2. Change the values you need. As a starting point, set innodb_buffer_pool_size to 70% to 80% of total RAM for MySQL, and shared_buffers to 25% to 40% of total RAM for PostgreSQL. 3. Click **Save changes**. The new values are saved in the group. To put them to work on your DBaaS instances, sync them. ## Sync saved values to your DBaaS instances Syncing restarts each DBaaS instance the group is attached to, so sync at a quiet time for your applications. 1. In the group's row menu, click **Sync All**. 2. In **Sync Parameter Group**, click **Sync**. Syncing applies the saved values to the primary of every DBaaS instance the group is attached to; Read Replicas stay as they are. Each DBaaS instance the group is attached to restarts and runs with the saved values. ## Delete a parameter group In the group's row menu, click **Delete**, then click **Delete** in **Delete Parameter Group**.
