Each project and region has one default at a time, so making a group default takes the role away from the previous one. ## Before you begin - The security group you want as the default. See [Create a security group](/myaccount/security-group/how-to/create-a-security-group/). ## Make the group the default 1. Open **Network > Security Group**. 2. Open the group's **Actions** menu and choose **Make Group Default**. The **Default** column now marks this group, and the previous default in the same project and region is an ordinary group again. Nodes that are already running keep the groups they have. To make a group the default as you create it, turn **Make this group default** on in the create form. Every new node in this project and region now starts with this group. A group can be deleted only when it is not the default, so this is also the first step to removing an old default; see [Delete a security group](/myaccount/security-group/how-to/delete-a-security-group/).
