A clone gives you a copy, to test on or to move into another VPC. An upgrade gives you the same files on a bigger plan, with more space and IOPS. The original SFS stays in your list. A clone or an upgrade of an encrypted SFS starts unencrypted. To get an encrypted copy, create a new SFS with **Enable Encryption** checked, then copy your files to it. ## Before you begin Take a snapshot of the SFS first, or pick one you already have; see [Create and schedule an SFS snapshot](/myaccount/sfs/how-to/create-and-schedule-an-sfs-snapshot/). The new SFS holds the files as they were when that snapshot was taken. ## Clone or upgrade it 1. Open the SFS and go to its **Snapshot** tab. 2. Open the snapshot's **Actions** menu and click **Clone** or **Upgrade**. 3. The create form opens. For a clone, set the name and VPC; the clone keeps the original's plan. Pick another VPC to move the SFS there, for example into the Default VPC so it can use backup. **Enable Encryption** has no effect here, so leave it as it is. For an upgrade, also pick one of the plans bigger than the current one. 4. Click **Clone SFS** or **Upgrade SFS**. The new SFS is ready once it reads **Available**. The original reads **Blocked** while the new one is created. If the SFS is already on the largest plan, **Upgrade** tells you so; you can still clone it. Next, give your nodes access to the new SFS and mount it; see [Mount an SFS](/myaccount/sfs/how-to/mount-an-sfs/).
