A volume attaches to one node at a time. ## Before you begin - An **Available** volume. See [Create a volume](/myaccount/volumes/how-to/create-a-volume/). - A node in the **Powered off** or **Running** state. See [Create a node](/myaccount/node/how-to/create-a-node/). ## Attach the volume 1. Open **Storage > Volumes**. 2. Select the volume, open its **Actions** menu, and choose **Attach**. 3. Choose the node from the list. 4. Click **Attach**. The volume's status changes to **Attached**, and the node's name shows under **Attached To** in the volume list. If your node has the CDP Backup service enabled, the attached volume's data is backed up as part of that service too, which makes your node's CDP backup larger. ## Mount the volume on the node The node now sees the volume as a block device. To use it, mount it on [Linux](/myaccount/volumes/how-to/mount-a-volume-on-linux/) or [Windows](/myaccount/volumes/how-to/mount-a-volume-on-windows/). To move it to a different node later, [detach it](/myaccount/volumes/how-to/detach-a-volume/) first. For an attach that fails, see [Troubleshooting Volumes](/myaccount/volumes/troubleshooting/volumes/).
