The IOPS come bundled and are set for you from the size. ## Before you begin - A MyAccount account with credit. - A node to attach the volume to later (you can create the volume on its own and attach it when you are ready). See [Create a node](/myaccount/node/how-to/create-a-node/). ## Create the volume 1. Open **Storage > Volumes**. 2. Click **Create Volume**. 3. Enter a **Volume Name**. 4. Move the slider to choose the **Volume Size** (100 GB to 16 TB). The **IOPS** field fills in for you, scaled to the size. 5. Choose **Hourly** or **Committed**. **Committed** has a term and an end date, and asks what to do when the term ends: renew it, or switch to hourly. See [Convert a volume to committed](/myaccount/volumes/how-to/convert-a-volume-to-committed/) for what each means. 6. (Optional) Check **Enable Encryption** to encrypt the volume. A passphrase is optional. See [Encrypt a volume](/myaccount/volumes/how-to/encrypt-a-volume/) for what encryption means for snapshots and later use. 7. Click **Launch Volume**. The volume shows in your list with the status **Available** when it is ready. The volume shows **Available** until a node uses it. Next, [attach it to a node](/myaccount/volumes/how-to/attach-a-volume/) and [mount it](/myaccount/volumes/how-to/mount-a-volume-on-linux/) in the node's operating system. [Troubleshooting Volumes](/myaccount/volumes/troubleshooting/volumes/) covers a volume that fails to create.
