The volume must be attached to a node and on an hourly plan, and the size can only go up. ## Before you begin - A volume attached to a node and on an hourly plan. See [Attach a volume](/myaccount/volumes/how-to/attach-a-volume/). ## A volume with a snapshot cannot be upgraded If the volume has a snapshot, the upgrade is blocked until you deal with it: delete the snapshot, or create a new volume from it and upgrade that new volume. ## Upgrade the volume 1. Open **Storage > Volumes**. 2. Select the volume, open its **Actions** menu, and choose **Upgrade Volume**. 3. Choose the new, larger size. 4. Click **Upgrade**. The volume is resized to the new size. If **Upgrade Volume** is unavailable, the volume is not attached, is part of a committed plan, or has a snapshot. See [Troubleshooting Volumes](/myaccount/volumes/troubleshooting/volumes/) for how to handle each. The extra space is yours once you extend the file system to fill it.
