--- title: "Run an AI Labs organization" description: "Run an AI Labs organization in TIR, stop or start it, free up its GPUs, convert it to a committed plan, monitor it, and delete it." content_type: "how-to" product: "ai-labs" platform: "TIR" url: "/tir/ai-labs/how-to/manage-ai-labs-as-an-admin/" topic: ["organizations"] --- # Run an AI Labs organization Keep an AI Labs organization running for as long as its course needs it. Pause it between terms, free its GPUs, move a long course to a committed plan, watch what learners use, and delete it when the course is over. To set one up, see [Create an AI Labs organization](/tir/ai-labs/how-to/create-an-organization/). ## Before you begin You need to be an Admin. A Professor of the organization can also [monitor it](#monitor-an-organization). ## Stop or start an organization, or free up its resources Stop an hourly organization when nobody needs it, so its billing pauses. Start it again when classes resume. To stop the running work and keep the organization active, free up its resources instead. Stop and start are for hourly organizations. A committed organization runs until its period ends. ### Stop the organization 1. Open the organization, open the settings menu, and choose **Stop Organization**. 2. Confirm. When the organization is stopped: - Every instance and endpoint in the organization is stopped. - Learners can start and create instances and endpoints again after you start the organization. Until then, they see **This AI Labs organization is currently stopped, so you cannot start this resource.** - Learners can still create datasets. - Billing for the organization pauses. ### Start the organization Select **Start** on the stopped organization. Billing resumes. To start it, you need enough infra credits and free GPU servers. If either falls short, you see **Insufficient Credits!** or **Inventory temporarily unavailable. Please try again after some time.** ### Free up resources To stop all compute and keep the organization active, open the settings menu and choose **Free up resources**, then confirm. AI Labs shows **Resource stop operation initiated successfully. The resources will shut down shortly.** - Every instance and inference service in the organization stops. - Datasets for courses, modules, and courseware keep billing, and so do datasets that learners created. - After instances start again, reinstall the packages you had installed. For other messages, see [Troubleshooting AI Labs](/tir/ai-labs/troubleshooting/ai-labs/). ## Convert an organization to a committed plan Convert an hourly organization to a committed plan for long, fixed-length use at a discounted price. **Convert to Committed** is offered on an hourly organization. A prepaid account needs enough infra credits for the committed price. See [Billing and Usage](/tir/tir-billing/). A committed organization cannot be stopped and runs until the commitment period ends. If the organization is stopped when you convert it, the conversion starts it, so the plan's GPU servers must be free. ### Convert the organization 1. Open the organization, open the settings menu, and choose **Convert to Committed**. 2. Choose the committed plan. It must be for the same plan as the organization's hourly plan. 3. Choose a renewal policy for the end of the period: - **Auto-Renew** renews the organization on the selected committed plan. - **Auto-Hourly** moves the organization back to an hourly plan. - **Auto-Delete** deletes the organization when the period ends. 4. Confirm. ### Change the renewal policy later 1. In the committed organization, open **Committed Settings** and select the edit icon. 2. Change the plan the organization renews into and the renewal policy. 3. Confirm. If you pick **Auto-Delete**, plan to keep copies of anything learners need before the period ends. To delete an organization yourself, see [Delete an organization](#delete-an-organization). For messages, see [Troubleshooting AI Labs](/tir/ai-labs/troubleshooting/ai-labs/). ## Monitor an organization See what your members do and how much GPU capacity they use. ### See the organization's details An Admin opens **Overview** to view and manage the organization's details. ### Read the activity Open the **Activity Timeline** tab to see what happened in the organization. It shows resource launches, member additions, and configuration changes. ### Watch resource use - **Monitoring** shows resource usage, performance, and health across the organization. - **Resource Utilization** shows every instance, endpoint, and dataset that members launched. When usage is high, free capacity with [Stop or start an organization, or free up its resources](#stop-or-start-an-organization-or-free-up-its-resources). To limit what each learner can launch, [create a group](/tir/ai-labs/how-to/manage-groups-and-members/#create-a-group) with the plans and limits you want. ## Delete an organization Delete an organization when its course is finished and you are done with everything in it. To keep it for a later term and pause its billing instead, [stop it](#stop-or-start-an-organization-or-free-up-its-resources). Deleting an organization permanently removes all its data and resources, and cancels pending invitations to it. Download or copy anything you want to keep first. ### Delete the organization 1. Open the organization and open the settings menu. 2. Choose **Delete Organization**. 3. Confirm in the dialog by selecting **Delete**. The organization and everything in it are gone. To run the course again, [create a new organization](/tir/ai-labs/how-to/create-an-organization/). For messages, see [Troubleshooting AI Labs](/tir/ai-labs/troubleshooting/ai-labs/).
