--- title: "Create a pipeline version" description: "Add a new version to an existing TIR pipeline so you can change its YAML and keep the earlier versions." content_type: "how-to" product: "pipelines" platform: "TIR" url: "/tir/pipelines/how-to/create-a-pipeline-version/" topic: ["create"] relationships: {"requires":["/tir/pipelines/how-to/create-a-pipeline/"]} --- # Create a pipeline version Create a version when a pipeline's YAML changes. Each version is its own upload, and each run uses one version, so you can keep every earlier version and choose which one to run. The first file uploaded to a pipeline is its default version. ## Create the version 1. In **Manage Pipelines**, select the pipeline, then the **Pipeline Versions** tab. 2. Select **Create Version**, which starts a new version of that pipeline. You can also start from **Create Pipeline** and choose **Create a new version**, then pick the pipeline in **Select Pipeline**. 3. In **Version Name**, keep the generated name or type your own, up to 30 characters. 4. (Optional) In **Description**, add up to 300 characters. 5. In **Upload Pipeline File**, add one `.yaml` file. 6. Select **Create Version**. The version is listed under **Pipeline Versions**. The rules about the file are the same as for [creating a pipeline](/tir/pipelines/how-to/create-a-pipeline/). To run a version, select the icon in its **Create Run** column. To remove a version, see [Delete a pipeline or a version](/tir/pipelines/how-to/delete-a-pipeline-or-version/).
