--- title: "TIR DBaaS" description: "Run a managed PostgreSQL database in TIR with pgvector, reach it from the IP ranges you allow or from a VPC, and keep snapshots you can restore." content_type: "overview" product: "tir-dbaas" platform: "TIR" url: "/tir/tir-dbaas/" --- # TIR DBaaS TIR DBaaS gives you a managed PostgreSQL database. You pick a PostgreSQL version, a compute plan, and a disk size, and set the first login; TIR sets up and manages the database. The pgvector extension is chosen for you when you create a database, so the same database can hold embeddings for vector search alongside ordinary relational data. DBaaS is available in Chennai. ## Where to find it In TIR, open a project in Chennai. In the side menu, under **Databases**, select **DBaaS**. Your databases are listed in **Manage Databases**, and **Create Database** starts a new one. **Parameter Groups**, the other entry under **Databases**, holds the engine settings you can attach to databases. ## What you can do ### Create and connect - [Create a database](/tir/tir-dbaas/how-to/create-a-database/) with a PostgreSQL version, a plan, a disk, the IP ranges that can connect, and the extensions it needs. - [Connect to a database](/tir/tir-dbaas/how-to/connect-to-a-database/) with a connection string, psql, JDBC, or a ready-made snippet for your framework. - [Reset a user's password](/tir/tir-dbaas/how-to/reset-a-user-password/) when a password is lost or needs changing. - [Control network access](/tir/tir-dbaas/how-to/control-network-access/) with the IP allowlist and a VPC. ### Protect your data - [Take a snapshot](/tir/tir-dbaas/how-to/take-a-snapshot/) of a database while it stays online. - [Schedule snapshots](/tir/tir-dbaas/how-to/schedule-snapshots/) every 6 hours, daily, weekly, or on your own cron schedule. - [Restore a database from a snapshot](/tir/tir-dbaas/how-to/restore-from-a-snapshot/) into a new database. ### Change and tune - [Edit a database](/tir/tir-dbaas/how-to/edit-a-database/) to add storage or change its network and advanced settings. - [Use parameter groups](/tir/tir-dbaas/how-to/use-parameter-groups/) to set PostgreSQL parameters once and attach them to databases. - [Add extensions](/tir/tir-dbaas/how-to/add-extensions/) such as pgvector, pg_trgm, and pgcrypto. ### Operate - [Monitor a database](/tir/tir-dbaas/how-to/monitor-a-database/) with charts of CPU, memory, storage, disk, and network, and its activity timeline. - [Stop, start, and restart a database](/tir/tir-dbaas/how-to/stop-start-and-restart-a-database/). - [Delete a database](/tir/tir-dbaas/how-to/delete-a-database/) once you are done with it. ## Learn how it works Read [How TIR DBaaS works](/tir/tir-dbaas/concepts/how-tir-dbaas-works/) for what a database is made of, how it is reached, and what each status means. [Billing for TIR DBaaS](/tir/tir-dbaas/concepts/billing-options/) explains how a database is charged. ## Where to start Start with [Get started with TIR DBaaS](/tir/tir-dbaas/get-started/), which creates a PostgreSQL database and connects to it with `psql`. The [TIR DBaaS FAQ](/tir/tir-dbaas/faq/) has short answers, and [Troubleshooting TIR DBaaS](/tir/tir-dbaas/troubleshooting/tir-dbaas/) helps with each message.
