A snapshot's storage is billed for as long as the snapshot exists, so deleting old ones stops their charge. Snapshots stay when their VM is deleted, so you delete those here too. ## Before you begin You need delete permission in the project. See [TIR Access Control](/tir/tir-iam/). ## Delete the snapshot Deleting a snapshot is permanent. Once it is gone, you can no longer restore a VM from it or create one from it, so check the name before you confirm. 1. Find the snapshot. In the side menu, under **Storage**, select **Snapshots** to see every snapshot in the project, including those of deleted VMs. For a VM that still exists, you can open the VM and select its **Snapshots** tab instead. 2. In the **Actions** menu of the snapshot, select **Delete Snapshot**. 3. Select **Delete**. The snapshot leaves the list. If the delete fails, TIR gives the reason. See [Troubleshooting TIR Snapshots](/tir/tir-snapshots/troubleshooting/tir-snapshots/). A snapshot shares data with the VM's live disk, so deleting it may free less space than its **Full Snapshot Size**. A schedule removes its own oldest snapshots once it has more than the number to keep, so you can leave the cleanup of scheduled snapshots to it. See [Schedule VM snapshots](/tir/tir-snapshots/how-to/schedule-vm-snapshots/). To take a fresh snapshot, see [Create a VM snapshot](/tir/tir-snapshots/how-to/create-a-vm-snapshot/).
