--- title: "Delete a vector database" description: "Delete a Qdrant vector database in TIR, which removes its collections and snapshots and stops every charge for it." content_type: "how-to" product: "vector-database" platform: "TIR" url: "/tir/vector-database/how-to/delete-a-vector-database/" topic: ["manage"] --- # Delete a vector database Delete a database to remove it for good, along with its collections and its snapshots. This stops its compute, disk and snapshot charges. ## Before you begin You need a role with Delete permission on Vector Database. Deleting a database permanently removes all its data, collections and configuration, and its snapshots go with it. Keep a copy of what you need outside the database first, for example with [Qdrant snapshots you download](/tir/vector-database/how-to/back-up-a-collection-with-qdrant-snapshots/). ## Delete the database 1. In **Manage Vector Database**, select **Actions** in the database's row, then **Delete**. **Delete** is available in any status. 2. In **Delete Database**, type the database name to confirm. **Delete** becomes available when the name matches. 3. Select **Delete**. TIR confirms that the database was deleted and removes it from the list. ## What to do next Create a new database with [Create a vector database](/tir/vector-database/how-to/create-a-vector-database/). For help with a message, see [Troubleshooting Vector Database](/tir/vector-database/troubleshooting/vector-database/).
