Set up alert groups that hold the right people for each kind of problem, ready to choose when you create an alert. An alert group is a named list of MyAccount users. When an alert fires, every member of each group linked to it gets an email. The same groups are offered on Manage Alerts and on the Alerts tab of a node, load balancer, DBaaS instance, or Kubernetes cluster.
You can make a group here or from any alert form, and you change or delete groups here, under Manage Alert Groups. Alert groups are separate from the user groups in IAM; see Alerts and problems.
Create Alert Group, Edit Group, and Delete Group each need an Event Monitoring permission. Troubleshooting Event Monitoring lists which.
Open the alert groups
Section titled “Open the alert groups”- In the side menu, click Event Monitoring. The Monitoring Dashboard opens.
- Click Manage Alerts. The list of alerts opens.
- Click Manage Alert Groups. The list of alert groups opens.
Alert groups belong to a project and a region. The list shows the groups of the project and region selected in MyAccount. A group made in Delhi is listed only in Delhi, and one made in Chennai only in Chennai. To find a group, search by its name or by a member’s name.
Once E2E has added default alerts in this project and region, the list holds a group whose name starts with Default-. The default alerts notify that group. To have them reach your team as well, add your teammates to this group. See Default alerts and the default alert group.
Create an alert group
Section titled “Create an alert group”Select the project and region of your alerts before you start.
- On Manage Alert Groups, click Create Alert Group. The Create Alert Group form opens.
- In Alert Group Name, enter a name of three to 50 characters, using letters, digits,
underscores, or hyphens. To use two words, join them with a hyphen, as in
web-team. Each group in a project needs its own name, across Delhi and Chennai, and MyAccount refuses a name that is already in use. - For Select User(s), click Select. The Users list opens, with a search.
- Tick the users to add, and click Add. Each one appears under Select User(s).
- Click Create. Create needs a valid name and at least one user.
MyAccount shows Alert Group created successfully. and returns to the list, where the new group is ready to choose in your alerts.
Every alert form offers your groups under Alert Group(s). To use the new group in an alert, see Create an alert. To move an existing alert to a new group, see Edit, pause, or delete an alert.
Who you can add
Section titled “Who you can add”Users offers these MyAccount users:
- The account owner, Admins, Project Leads, and Viewers, always. An owner or Admin creating a group can tick their own name.
- Members, Billing users, and Billing + Member users, once they have accepted their invitation and belong to the current project.
To alert someone new to MyAccount, invite them to the account first; see Invite a user.
To have a Member, Billing, or Billing + Member colleague appear in Users, ask them to accept their invitation, and give them this project. See Give an existing user access to another project.
How members are notified
Section titled “How members are notified”Someone you add to a group that already serves an alert gets that alert’s notifications once you save the group. For how the notifications reach each member, see How alerts reach people.
Create an alert group from the alert form
Section titled “Create an alert group from the alert form”You can make a group while you create or edit an alert, without leaving the form.
- In Create Alert or Edit Alert, click the plus icon beside Alert Group(s). The Create New Alert Group panel opens.
- Fill in Alert Group Name and Select User(s) as in Create an alert group.
- Click Create.
MyAccount shows Alert Group created successfully., and you are back in the alert form with the new group selected under Alert Group(s).
Edit an alert group
Section titled “Edit an alert group”- On Manage Alert Groups, in the group’s Actions, choose Edit Group. Edit Alert Group opens with the group’s name and users filled in.
- Change the name, or add users with Select. To take a user off, select the x beside their name under Select User(s), or open Select and untick them. Keep at least one user in the group. A user you remove stops getting notifications from the alerts that reach them only through this group.
- Click Save. It becomes available once you change the name or the users.
MyAccount shows Alert Group edited successfully. The change applies to every alert that uses the group.
Delete an alert group
Section titled “Delete an alert group”To delete a group, first take it off every alert that lists it. That includes paused alerts, alerts that also notify other groups, and the default alerts that use the default alert group.
- On Manage Alerts, find each alert that lists the group under Alert Group(s). An alert with more than three groups lists the rest under …more. Check every page of the list.
- For each of those alerts, choose Edit in its Actions menu. Take this group off, choosing another group first if it is the alert’s only one, and click Save. If you no longer need the alert, choose Delete instead.
- On Manage Alert Groups, in the group’s Actions, choose Delete Group. MyAccount asks you to confirm, naming the group.
- Confirm. MyAccount shows Alert Group deleted successfully, and the group leaves the list.
If MyAccount keeps the group instead, an alert still lists it; see Triggers are attached to this user group.
