Create a monitoring integration to tell alerts where to send notifications: by email or to a webhook. For Slack, see Send alerts to Slack.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”You need a TIR project and a role with Create permission on monitoring integrations. For email, the people you want to notify must be members of the project. For a webhook, have the URL of an endpoint that accepts POST requests with a JSON body and answers with a 2xx status. See Webhook requests.
Open the form
Section titled “Open the form”In TIR, open your project. In the side menu, under PLATFORM SERVICES, select Alert Management. Select Manage Monitoring Integrations, then Create Monitoring Integration. You can also select the link in the Create Alert form to create one from inside that form.
Name the integration
Section titled “Name the integration”Integration name starts with a generated name, which you can replace. A name starts with a letter, uses letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores, and ends with a letter or number. It can be up to 255 characters and must be unique in the project. Description is optional.
Choose the contact point type
Section titled “Choose the contact point type”Contact point type offers Mail, Webhook, and Slack, and starts on Mail. One integration has one type. To notify by two types, create two integrations and use both in the alert.
Create an email integration
Section titled “Create an email integration”With Mail, pick at least one person in Members. The list shows the members of your project by name. When an alert fires, TIR sends an email to the email address of each member you picked. A person who is in several integrations of the same alert gets one email. The email names the alert, the resource, the project, the severity, the metric, the operator, and the threshold.
A member who leaves the project, or is deactivated, stops receiving the email. The integration keeps working for the others. An integration sends email only while it has members.
The form tests webhooks and Slack only, so confirm a Mail integration works when the first alert arrives, as in Get started.
Create a webhook integration
Section titled “Create a webhook integration”With Webhook, fill in:
- Webhook URL: the address of your endpoint. It must start with
httporhttps. - (Optional) Select Add Header, then type a Key and a Value. You can add up to 10
headers. Use a header to send a credential, for example the key
Authorizationwith the valueBearer <token>, where<token>is the token your endpoint expects. A row needs both a key and a value. - Test the URL before you save. Test URL is available once you type a URL. It sends a sample
alert and reports success when your endpoint answers with a 2xx status. The test leaves out the
headers you added. An endpoint that requires an
Authorizationheader therefore answers the test with 401, while live alerts carry the header.
Save it
Section titled “Save it”Select Create integration.
Check the integration
Section titled “Check the integration”Open Manage Monitoring Integrations. The new integration is there with its Members count and Attached Alerts at 0. It starts sending once you create an alert that uses it and attach the alert to a running resource.
