Use an existing or external bucket

View as Markdown

Create a repository on a bucket that already exists instead of a new one. Choose Existing EOS Bucket for a bucket in your own account, and External EOS Bucket for a bucket that another account owns.

  • A TIR project in Delhi or Chennai. The bucket must be in the same region as the repository.
  • Permission to create model repositories in the project. A Member gets it through a policy that allows creating for the Inference service. For Existing EOS Bucket, a Member also needs a policy that allows reading datasets. Without it, there are no buckets to choose, and TIR gives no reason.
  • For External EOS Bucket, the name of an E2E Object Storage bucket in the same region. You also need an Access Key and Secret Key attached to that bucket, and they must be able to read and write it. This option works only with E2E Object Storage buckets.
  1. In Model Repository, select Create Repository. Fill in Repository Name and Model Type as in Create a repository.
  2. Under Storage Type, select Existing EOS Bucket. A note says “This option will use the selected EOS Bucket to store the model artifacts”.
  3. Under Bucket, choose one of your account’s EOS buckets in the current region, including buckets created in Object Storage and buckets that another repository already uses. To make a new bucket first, select create under Bucket.
  4. Select Create.

TIR gives the repository its own access key for the bucket, and that is the key the repository shows. The repository’s files count toward the bucket’s storage as before.

  1. In Model Repository, select Create Repository, and fill in Repository Name and Model Type.
  2. Under Storage Type, select External EOS Bucket. The notes say that you can use an EOS bucket that someone else owns. They also say that you need the bucket’s Access Key and Secret Key to reach it.
  3. Enter Bucket Name (up to 50 characters), Access Key, and Secret Key. Both key fields hide what you type, and you can show them to check it.
  4. Select Create.

The repository is created. On its Overview tab, Bucket Type is Existing EOS Bucket or External Bucket. The storage type is fixed once the repository exists. To use different storage, create a new repository.
