Delete an Auto Scaling Group

View as Markdown

Deleting a TIR Auto Scaling Group terminates every VM in it and removes the group. Anything stored on the VMs’ disks is deleted with them. The source snapshot, the source VM, your SSH keys and your security groups stay.

  • Permission to delete VMs in the project. See TIR Access Control.
  • Copies of anything you need from the disks of the group’s VMs. Deleting is permanent.

To keep the group’s setup, note the source snapshot, plan and scaling policy, which are on the details page under Configuration. The source snapshot stays after the delete, so you can build a new group from it. See Create an Auto Scaling Group.

  1. In Auto Scaling Groups, open the group’s row menu, or More actions on its details page, and choose Delete. While a group is Creating, use the row menu on the list.
  2. In Delete Auto Scaling Group, check what goes: deleting the group terminates its VMs, removes the group, and deletes anything stored on the VMs’ disks. The delete is permanent.
  3. Tick the box that reads “I understand and want to delete the Auto Scaling Group” and ends with the group’s name, then select Delete.

The group is Deleting until it leaves the list. If the delete fails, TIR gives the reason.

  • The group’s VMs are terminated. Each VM’s public IP address is released with it.
  • The source snapshot, the source VM, the SSH keys and the security groups stay in place.

A group that stays in Deleting has Retry Delete in the same menus. Running it again carries on terminating the VMs still in the group. Tick the box and select Delete.

To keep the group while its VMs are off, stop it instead. See Stop and start an Auto Scaling Group. To build a replacement, see Create an Auto Scaling Group.
