Generate a link to one object path that works for anyone who has it, until it expires. Use it to share one object with someone outside the project instead of handing out the secret key.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”- A bucket with the object you want to share, or the path where an outside application will upload.
- Permission to update and to create datasets in the project. The Actions menu shows Generate Presigned URL with update permission, and generating the link needs create permission. A Member gets both through a policy that allows them.
Generate the link
Section titled “Generate the link”- In the list, open the Actions menu of the bucket and select Generate Presigned URL. To make a link for one version of an object, use Generate Presigned URL in that version’s Actions instead; see Use object versioning.
- In Object path, enter the path inside the bucket, for example
train/images/example.png. For a version, the portal fills in the path for you, and the path stays fixed. - In Type, choose Download to let someone fetch the object, or Upload to let an outside application write one into the bucket.
- Set Expiry time in Minutes, Hours, or Days. It starts at 1 hour and runs from 1 minute to 7 days. Any other value shows “Enter a time between 1 minute and 7 days.”
- Select Generate URL, then copy the link.
Copy the link now: TIR shows it only once, and it cannot be retrieved after you close the dialog. If you lose it, generate a new one. Several links can be live at once, each valid until its own expiry.
Test the link
Section titled “Test the link”Open the link in a browser or an S3-aware client before it expires. A Download link fetches the object.
To find an object’s path, browse the bucket’s objects. For help with a message, see Troubleshooting TIR Object Storage.
