Attach an alert to a TIR Virtual Machine to be warned when one of its metrics crosses the alert’s limit, for example when CPU use goes above 90 percent. The warning goes where the alert’s Monitoring Integration sends it: a mail, webhook, or Slack contact point.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”- A VM in the Running state, because an alert attaches only while the VM runs. See Stop, start, and restart a VM.
- An alert in the same project as the VM, created with Service for alert set to VM. It watches one of these: CPU Utilization, Memory Utilization, Network Bandwidth, Network Packet Rate, Storage IOPS, or Storage Throughput. On a GPU VM, it can also watch GPU Temperature or GPU Power. To create one, see Create an alert.
Attach an alert
Section titled “Attach an alert”- In Manage VMs, select the VM’s name, then select the Alerts tab.
- Under Select Alerts, choose one alert, then select Attach.
The alert now watches the VM. To watch more than one metric, attach each alert in turn.
If you can create alerts, you can make one right from the VM’s page with the Click here link at the top of the tab, then attach it the same way. For the alert form, see Alert Management.
Detach an alert
Section titled “Detach an alert”To stop an alert from watching the VM, select Detach alert on its row, tick “I understand and want to detach this alert.”, and select Detach.
Deleting a VM removes the alert rules attached to it.
To see the figures an alert watches, read Monitor a VM. For problems with alerts on a VM, see Troubleshooting TIR Virtual Machines.
