Request CDN

View as Markdown

To create distributions, your account first asks E2E to turn CDN on. You send one request for the whole account, with a short reason, and E2E reviews it. Once E2E approves it, every project in the account can create distributions.

If Create CDN already shows on Manage CDN Services, CDN is on for your account.

Make sure your account setup is complete. If it is not, Request CDN opens the profile setup first; finish it, and then send the request.

  1. In MyAccount, under Network, click CDN. If you have no distribution yet, click Get Started. Manage CDN Services opens.
  2. Click Request CDN. A dialog opens: “Tell us about your nature of business for using CDN service.”
  3. In Reason, enter up to 500 characters about your business and what you will serve through the CDN. Name the site or the bucket, and the kind of files, such as “Product images and videos for www.example.com, from the bucket example-assets”.
  4. Click Request CDN in the dialog.

You see Request for CDN service created successfully.

You can also start the request from a bucket. Until your account is approved, Add to CDN in a bucket’s Actions menu asks for the same request first.

Open Manage CDN Services. Once E2E approves the request, Create CDN shows in place of Request CDN, with CDN Monitoring and CDN Bandwidth Usage beside it. Add to CDN on your buckets then opens the distribution form.

While the request waits, clicking Request CDN again opens a message that your request is under process. One request covers the whole account, so there is nothing more to send.

You can get your origin ready, so you can create the distribution as soon as CDN is on:

  • For a bucket, upload your files, and turn on public access with Download and Listing checked. See Make a bucket public. The steps for later are in Serve a bucket through the CDN.
  • For your own web server, make sure it is reached by a domain name, such as static.example.com, and that anyone can read the files you will serve from it. The steps for later are in Create a distribution.

If you need CDN by a certain date, or the request has been waiting longer than you can wait, contact support. Include:

  • Your account’s CRN, or the email address you sign in with.
  • That you sent Request CDN, and the date you sent it.
  • What you will serve through the CDN, and the origin’s domain name or the bucket’s name.

Once Create CDN shows, your account can create distributions in any of its projects. Next, create a distribution for your own server, or serve a bucket through the CDN. If the request does not go through, see Troubleshooting CDN.
