Billing

Functions is billed on the memory your functions use over time, counted in GB-seconds. The rates are on E2E’s pricing page.

A function’s usage is its memory in MB multiplied by its execution time in seconds, converted to GB-seconds. One GB is 1024 MB. Each time a function runs, it adds to the account’s monthly total.

E2E bills the total GB-seconds your functions use in each calendar month. Dedicated replicas add nothing to the bill. Usage is counted from the time each request takes to run. A replica waiting for requests is not charged.

CPU functions: a monthly minimum with included usage

Section titled “CPU functions: a monthly minimum with included usage”

Once Functions is active, you pay the CPU monthly minimum each month. The minimum includes 4,50,000 GB-seconds of CPU usage, and you pay it however little you use. Above that, the month’s whole CPU usage is billed per GB-second instead of the minimum.

The minimum applies for every calendar month in which Functions is active, even for part of the month. After you deactivate, later months have no Functions charge. The month in which you deactivate keeps its charge.

A Custom Container Image function is billed as a CPU function. Its GB-seconds count toward the month’s CPU usage.

A prepaid account pays the minimum from its prepaid balance when it activates. Each activation of a prepaid account charges the minimum again, even in the same month. The charge carries the reason “FaaS Activate charges”. If you deactivate Functions later in the same month, the minimum you already paid stays on the bill. It is not refunded.

A postpaid account pays nothing at the moment it activates. The minimum comes on its monthly bill, as the Functions line.

CPU usage appears on the bill as one Functions line a month. The line shows the month’s CPU usage in place of {usage}:

  • While the usage is within the included 4,50,000 GB-seconds, the line is the minimum. It reads “Flat charges applied to CPU functions usage {usage} GBsecond.”
  • Above that, the line charges the month’s whole usage per GB-second. It reads “Total CPU functions usage of the month is {usage} GBsecond.”

The line also shows the account’s outbound IP, “Region: Delhi”, and the billing period, as “From: … Hours To: … Hours” in India time.

Suppose a CPU function has 1024 MB (1 GB) of memory and is called 46,000 times in a month, and each call runs for 10 seconds. Its usage is 1 GB x 10 seconds x 46,000 calls = 4,60,000 GB-seconds.

That is more than the 4,50,000 GB-seconds the minimum includes. Because the month is above the included usage, the month’s CPU line charges all 4,60,000 GB-seconds at the per-GB-second rate for CPU functions.

The exact amounts come from the rates on E2E’s pricing page.
