Promote a Read Replica to Master Node

Promote a Read Replica to turn it into a separate DBaaS instance, independent of the primary. The new DBaaS instance runs in the replica’s own region, which can be different from the primary’s.

Before you begin

• The replica is Running.
• On a prepaid account, you have enough infra credits to run the new DBaaS instance for about 24 hours.

Promote the replica

1. On the primary’s Read Replica tab, in the replica’s row menu, click Promote to Master Node.
2. Enter a Master Node Name: up to 50 characters, using letters, numbers, underscores, and hyphens.
3. Promotion is permanent: the new DBaaS instance runs on its own from then on. Check By proceeding, I acknowledge and agree to these changes.
4. Click Promote to Master Node.

You see Conversion Successful. You now have a separate DBaaS instance on the DBaaS list: manage, connect to, and delete it like any other. To point your application at it, see Connect to a DBaaS instance.
