If the application a DBaaS instance serves is in another project of the same account, you can move the instance into that project. Every machine it runs on moves with it, and so does a committed plan on those machines. Its region, plan, IP addresses, and data stay as they are, and the move does not restart it.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”The account owner, or a user with the Admin or Project Lead role in the instance’s project, can move a DBaaS instance; Move To Another Project in the Actions menu appears for them. See Choose a role for a user. You also need a second project in the account to move the instance to. See Create a project.
Get the DBaaS instance ready
Section titled “Get the DBaaS instance ready”Before you move it, check the DBaaS instance against this list:
- Its status is Running or Stopped. If it is Creating, Deploying, Resuming, or Stopping, wait until it reads Running or Stopped. An instance that is Terminating cannot move.
- It has no VPC attached. See Attach a VPC to a DBaaS instance.
- It has no parameter group attached. See Attach a parameter group to a DBaaS instance. To take the group along, follow Move the parameter group too.
- It carries no tags. See Tag a resource.
- None of the addresses on its Whitelisted IP tab carries a tag. See Whitelist an IP address for a DBaaS instance.
Move the DBaaS instance
Section titled “Move the DBaaS instance”-
In the sidebar, under Database, click DBaaS. In the DBaaS instance’s row, open Actions and click Move To Another Project. The item is only on the DBaaS list, not in the More Actions menu on the DBaaS instance’s own page.
If the DBaaS instance cannot move yet, MyAccount lists which condition in Get the DBaaS instance ready blocks it.
-
Move Dbaas to Another Project opens. Choose the target project in Select Project. You can pick any project except the one the instance is in now.
-
Turn on the checkbox that names the DBaaS instance and the target project, so that Transfer becomes available.
-
Click Transfer to move the DBaaS instance.
When the message Resource is transferred successfully. appears, the DBaaS instance is in the target project, and the DBaaS list reloads without it. If MyAccount refuses the move, the instance stays in its project; look the reason up in Troubleshooting DBaaS.
To work with the instance in its new project, choose that project from the project list in the header; see Create a project. Both projects’ audit logs record the move; see Read the audit log.
Move the parameter group too
Section titled “Move the parameter group too”A DBaaS instance and its parameter group move one at a time. To keep using the same group in the new project:
- Detach the parameter group from the DBaaS instance.
- Follow Move the DBaaS instance to move the instance to the new project.
- Move the parameter group. See Move a parameter group to another project.
- Switch to the new project and attach the group to the DBaaS instance again. See Attach a parameter group to a DBaaS instance.
The DBaaS instance and its parameter group are now both in the new project, with the group attached to the instance again.
