Create a project

View as Markdown

A project holds its own nodes, volumes, and other resources, apart from the rest of your account. Create one to keep a set of work, such as testing or production, separate from another.

Every account starts with one project, created at sign-up and named default-project- followed by a number. You can work in it, rename it, or add more projects beside it. An account can have as many projects as you need.

Check that:

  • Customer validation is approved for your account. Until it is, E2E refuses a new project, even though Create is on the screen. See Complete customer validation (KYC).
  • You are an Admin or a Project Lead. These two roles manage projects in IAM, and Manage Project shows in the header only for people with IAM permission.
  1. In the MyAccount header, open the list beside the name of the project you are in, and click Manage Project. IAM opens on its Manage Project tab.
  2. In Enter a project name, type the name. It can be up to 50 characters of letters, digits, underscores, and hyphens, and it must be different from every other project name in your account.
  3. Click Create.

MyAccount shows Project Created Succesfully. E2E emails you that the project was created. When someone other than the owner creates a project, the owner gets the email too.

A project stays in your account once it is created, and you can rename it whenever you like.

If the name breaks a rule, MyAccount says which one:

  • Only letters, digits, underscore or hyphen are allowed.: the name has a space or another character. Use a hyphen or an underscore instead of a space.
  • Max 50 characters are allowed.: shorten the name to 50 characters or fewer.
  • Project name must be unique!: another project in your account already has this name. Choose a different one.

A new project starts empty. To create resources in it, switch to it first: resources are always created in the project you are in, and so are support tickets.

  • From the header, open the project list and click the project. MyAccount switches at once.
  • From Manage Project, choose the project in the table. MyAccount asks you to confirm the switch. Click Switch Project.

The header then shows the project you switched to.

Manage Project lists your projects with their Project Name and Project ID under three tabs:

  • Recent shows the last five projects.
  • Starred shows the projects you have starred.
  • All shows every project.

To narrow the list, type part of a name in Search Project.

You can rename any project, the default project included. The new name follows the same rules as a new one: up to 50 characters of letters, digits, underscores, and hyphens, different from every other project name in your account.

  1. On Manage Project, click the project’s name, or the pencil at the end of its row. The project’s panel opens with the name in a box.
  2. Change the name, and click the check mark beside it (Rename). It becomes available once the name has changed and follows the rules.

If the name breaks a rule, MyAccount says which one: Project name is required., Maximum 50 characters are allowed, or Only letters, digits, underscore or hyphen are allowed.

You add people to a project from IAM, which also decides their role and what they can do in it. They work under your account’s customer validation; see Account FAQ for who needs to validate on their own.

Switch to your new project and create its first resource, such as a node from Create a node. To label resources inside a project, see Create a tag.
