How do I set reverse DNS for my server’s IP?

Section titled “How do I set reverse DNS for my server’s IP?”

You add it yourself in MyAccount. First, make sure the name, such as mail.example.com, has an A record that points to the address. Then, under Network, click DNS, then Add Reverse DNS. On Manage Reverse DNS, click Add Record, choose the address under IPv4 Address, and enter the name under Domain. See Set up reverse DNS.

If the record is refused, support sets reverse DNS on request. See Custom Reverse DNS record already exist.

Do I need a support ticket to set a PTR record?

Section titled “Do I need a support ticket to set a PTR record?”

You can add it yourself on Manage Reverse DNS; a PTR record is the reverse DNS record of an address. Support also sets it on request: send the address and the name it should return. See Set up reverse DNS.

Why does my IP already have a reverse DNS name?

Section titled “Why does my IP already have a reverse DNS name?”

Every E2E public IP has a default reverse name, set by E2E. A custom reverse DNS record you add replaces it. To see an address’s current name, run dig -x 203.0.113.10 +short with your address. See Set up reverse DNS.

The public IPs of your nodes, in every project, and the reserved IPs of the project you are working in. See Set up reverse DNS.

Can I set reverse DNS for an IPv6 address?

Section titled “Can I set reverse DNS for an IPv6 address?”

No. Custom reverse DNS is for IPv4 addresses. See Set up reverse DNS.

No. An address has one custom reverse DNS record, with one name. See Set up reverse DNS.

Does the name need to be on E2E DNS for reverse DNS?

Section titled “Does the name need to be on E2E DNS for reverse DNS?”

No. The name must have an A record that points to the address, live on public DNS, and that A record can be on E2E DNS or at any other DNS provider. See Set up reverse DNS.

Can I use www.example.com as a reverse DNS name?

Section titled “Can I use www.example.com as a reverse DNS name?”

Yes. Domain in Add Reverse Domain takes any host name you control, such as www.example.com or mail.example.com. See Set up reverse DNS.

Which DNS records does a mail server need?

Section titled “Which DNS records does a mail server need?”

An MX record that names it, an SPF record in a TXT record, a DKIM record, and a DMARC record. A mail server you run yourself also needs reverse DNS on its IP set to its name, with that name’s A record pointing back to the same IP. See Set up email records.

ns50.e2enetworks.net.in and ns51.e2enetworks.net.in. Set both at your registrar in place of the domain’s current nameservers. Nameservers on Manage DNS lists them. These two are the only nameservers E2E DNS offers; nameserver names under your own domain are not available. See Point your domain to E2E nameservers.

I pointed my domain to E2E’s nameservers. Why are there no records?

Section titled “I pointed my domain to E2E’s nameservers. Why are there no records?”

The domain also needs to be added in MyAccount. On Manage DNS, click Add Domain, then add its records. E2E’s nameservers answer for the domain as soon as you add it. See Add a domain. If the domain is added and still does not answer, see My domain does not resolve after I pointed it to E2E.

Can I use E2E DNS for a domain I bought somewhere else?

Section titled “Can I use E2E DNS for a domain I bought somewhere else?”

Yes. Add the domain in MyAccount, and set E2E’s nameservers at the registrar you bought it from. E2E does not register or sell domains. See Get started with DNS.

Can my domain point to a server outside E2E?

Section titled “Can my domain point to a server outside E2E?”

Yes. IPV4 Address on Add Domain, and the address in an A record, can be any IPv4 address. See Add a DNS record.

E2E’s nameservers answer with a new record at once, and with an edit or a delete within about 10 seconds. Other DNS servers that looked the name up before keep the old answer until its TTL runs out. A nameserver change at your registrar can take up to 48 hours to reach every resolver. To see what E2E answers right now, run dig @ns50.e2enetworks.net.in www.example.com A +short. See Troubleshooting DNS.

3600 seconds, which is one hour, or more, for records that rarely change. Diagnostics flags any record under 3600 seconds. Use a shorter TTL, such as 300 seconds, for a few hours before you move a record. See Add a DNS record.

No. Add the registered domain, such as example.com, and add the subdomain as a record in it, such as an A record with Host Name shop. Add Domain refuses a subdomain with A subdomain is not allowed when adding a domain. See Add a domain.

How do I point every subdomain to the same place?

Section titled “How do I point every subdomain to the same place?”

A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, and SRV; CAA records are not offered. The SOA and NS records come with the domain and stay as they are, with no edit or delete. See Add a DNS record.

How do I move my subdomains from another DNS provider?

Section titled “How do I move my subdomains from another DNS provider?”

Add one record for each subdomain on E2E, of the same type and value as at your old provider. Use a CNAME for each subdomain that points to a host name, and an A record for each that points to an address. Then change the nameservers. See Move several subdomains from another provider.

No. Add each record with Add Record. You can download your domain’s zone file from its Zone File tab. See Download a zone file.

No. The same domains and records show whether you have Delhi or Chennai selected. Domains belong to a project, and each project lists only its own. See Add a domain.
