Adding a domain puts it on E2E’s nameservers, with a starting set of records that send the domain
and www to the address you give. You then add the rest of its records and point the domain to
E2E at your registrar.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”- You own the domain, registered at a domain registrar. E2E hosts domains and does not register or sell them.
- You know the IPv4 address the domain’s website runs on. It can be any public address, such as a node’s public IP or a server at another provider.
- Your role in the project lets you create resources, which is what shows Add Domain.
- Your account setup is complete. Otherwise Submit opens the profile setup first.
Domains belong to a project, so add the domain in the project where you want to manage it. The domain is not tied to a region: it shows the same with Delhi or Chennai selected.
Add the domain
Section titled “Add the domain”- In MyAccount, under Network, click DNS. If you have no domain yet, click Get Started. Manage DNS opens.
- Click Add Domain.
- In Domain, enter the registered domain, such as
example.comorexample.co.in. Use the domain itself, with nowwwor other subdomain in front: a subdomain such asshop.example.combecomes a record inside the domain later. - In IPV4 Address, enter the address for the domain’s website, such as
203.0.113.10. - Click Submit. It is available once both fields are valid.
Domain has been created successfully. confirms it, and the domain appears in Manage DNS,
written with a dot at the end, such as example.com..
Domain takes letters, digits, hyphens, and dots, with at least one dot, up to 100 characters. These messages tell you what to change:
- This field cannot be empty, or The domain name entered is not valid. Please check and try again: check the spelling.
- A subdomain is not allowed when adding a domain: enter the registered domain, such as
example.com, rather thanwww.example.com. - The TLD (top level domain) is not valid: the ending, such as
.comor.co.in, is not a real domain ending. Check it. - Please enter valid ip address., or Please Enter a Valid IPv4 address. eg. xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx where xxx can be a number from 0-255: enter an IPv4 address, four numbers from 0 to 255 separated by dots. An address that starts with 255 is refused.
- Domain ‘example.com.’ already exists, with your domain in place of
example.com.: the domain is already on E2E DNS. See Domain already exists when you add a domain.
The records E2E creates
Section titled “The records E2E creates”To see the domain’s records, click Actions, then Manage, in its row on Manage DNS. The domain opens on Edit DNS Record, on its Domain Name System Record tab, which holds these records:
| Record | Name | Value | TTL |
|---|---|---|---|
| SOA and NS | The domain | E2E’s nameservers | Set by E2E |
| A | The domain | The address you entered | 14400 seconds |
| A | www.example.com. |
The address you entered | 14400 seconds |
| MX | The domain | 10 example.com.: priority 10, the domain |
14400 seconds |
The SOA and NS records stay as they are; their Actions menu is not available. Change the A and MX records as you need, or delete them. If another server or provider handles the domain’s email, the MX record must name that server instead. See Set up email records.
IP Address in Manage DNS keeps showing the address you entered here. It stays the same when you later edit or delete the domain’s A record, so read the records list for the current value.
Find a domain later
Section titled “Find a domain later”Manage DNS lists five domains a page, with Domain Name, IP Address, and Actions. Items per page shows 5, 10, 15, or 20. Search DNS finds a domain by its name or its IP address. The search box in MyAccount’s header also finds Manage DNS.
The domain is on E2E DNS, and E2E’s nameservers answer for it already. Next, add the records it needs, then point your domain to E2E nameservers. For help with any message, see Troubleshooting DNS.
