Reserve a public IPv4 address, attach it to one of your nodes as an Add-on IP, and check that it answers. You need a MyAccount account with credit and a node to attach the address to.
Reserve an address
Section titled “Reserve an address”Open Network > Reserve IP and click Reserve New IP. The popup shows the monthly price. Keep Reserve IP from the default network selected and click Reserve a new IP.
The address appears in the list with the status Available: it is yours and ready to attach.
Attach it to your node
Section titled “Attach it to your node”Make sure the node is unlocked. Then open the address’s Actions menu and choose Attach IP, select Node, pick your node, and click Attach IP.
The status changes to Attached, and your node’s name appears under Assigned To. On the node’s Network tab, the address is listed with the node’s add-on IPv4 addresses, next to its own public IP.
Check that it answers
Section titled “Check that it answers”The node picks up the address on its own, with nothing to set up inside it. Connect to the
node over SSH on the reserved IP, the same way you connect on its own address. On a Linux
node, ip addr lists the reserved IP next to the node’s own public IP.
Next steps
Section titled “Next steps”The address stays yours when you detach it or delete the node, and you can attach it to the next node you build. From here you can:
- Use it as a Floating IP shared by up to four nodes.
- Make it a node’s primary public IP instead.
- Keep the address a node already has when you delete the node.
If the attach does not go through, see Troubleshooting Reserved IP.
