A reserved IP is a public IPv4 address that stays assigned to your account until you release it, even after the node it is attached to is deleted. Reserve the address first: see Reserved IP for how, since reserving an address is that product’s own job. This is also how you give an E1-series node its first public address. E1-series nodes get no public IPv4 by default, so they keep only a private IP until you attach one.
The node needs to be Running or Powered off, and unlocked, with no public IP attached yet. To switch an existing public IP for your reserved one, detach the current IP first: see Detach a node’s public IP. Detaching warns that the node loses public access until you attach a replacement, so have your reserved IP ready before you detach.
- Open the node’s Network tab.
- Choose to attach a public IP, then pick your reserved IP from the list, or reserve a new one from the same step. An IP already attached elsewhere, or a Floating IP, does not appear as an option.
- Confirm. The address now shows as the node’s public IPv4 on the Network tab, and the node answers on it. Connect over SSH or RDP on the new address to check.
If the attach link is missing or refused, see Troubleshooting node networking and connectivity.
If you would rather keep the address the node already has, the same tab lets you reserve that current IP directly instead. It stays yours even after you delete the node, for a monthly charge.
