Move a reserved IP to another project

View as Markdown

Moving a reserved IP hands it to another project in the same account, for example when you reorganize resources and want the address to follow them. The address itself stays the same and remains reserved to your account.

You can move a reserved IP if you are the account owner, or have the Admin or Project Lead role in its project; Move To Another Project appears for those roles. See Choose a role for a user. Your account also needs a second project for the address. See Create a project.

The address must also meet three conditions:

  • Its type in the list is Add-on IP, the type a newly reserved address has. A Public IP or Floating IP stays in its project.
  • Its status is Available. If it is attached, detach it first; see Detach the IP.
  • It has no tags. See Tag a resource.

A reserved IP attached to a node moves with that node. To keep the address on its node, move the node instead of detaching the IP. See Move a node to another project.

  1. Open Network > Reserve IP.

  2. In the address’s Actions menu, click Move To Another Project.

If the address is not ready, MyAccount says instead that it must have no tags and be Available.

  3. Move Reserve Ip to Another Project opens. Choose where the address goes in Select Project, turn on the checkbox that names the address and the project, and click Transfer.

The address is now in the target project, and MyAccount confirms the move with Resource is transferred successfully. If MyAccount refuses the move, the address has not moved; see Troubleshooting Reserved IP.

The address is on the Reserve IP page of the target project once you switch to that project from the header. See Create a project. The move appears in the audit log of the old project and of the new one; see Read the audit log.

From there, the address can serve a node in that project as an add-on IP. See Attach a reserved IP as an add-on IP.
