Create a disk

View as Markdown

Create a disk of the size you choose in your project and region, encrypted if you want.

  • A TIR project in Delhi or Chennai.
  • Permission to create datasets in the project. A Member gets it through a policy that allows creating datasets.
  • A name in mind, and a size. The form shows the price per GB per month for the size you pick. For rates, see E2E’s pricing page. For an estimate across services, use the E2E pricing calculator.
  1. In TIR, open your project. In the side menu, under Storage, select Block Storage (Disk Dataset).
  2. Select Create Dataset.
  3. In Dataset Name, keep the generated name, which looks like tir-dataset-<letters and digits>, or type your own. A name is up to 50 characters, uses only lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens, and starts and ends with a letter or number. It must differ from the names of the project’s other datasets, Shared File Systems, and Parallel File Systems. The name becomes the folder the disk appears in on an instance, /datasets/<name>, so choose one you want to read in a path.
  4. (Optional) To encrypt the disk, turn Enable Encryption on. E2E Managed is the only encryption type. Encryption is included in the disk price. Choose now: a disk’s encryption stays as you set it.
  5. Set Disk Size, in GB. It starts at 100 GB, and the smallest size is 10 GB. The largest is your disk size limit, which is 15,000 GB unless E2E has set a different one for you. To go past the limit, see Request a higher disk size limit. Later you can only make a disk bigger, and you pay for every GB you set, so start close to what you need.
  6. Check Total amount chargeable per month, the cost of the size you picked.
  7. Select Create.

With encryption on, confirm in Dataset Encryption first: tick “I understand that encryption configuration cannot be changed later” and select Continue.

The disk is created, and Next Steps: Using Disk Storage shows how to use it. Close that to return to the list. The disk is Pending until it is ready, then Ready. You can mount the disk once it is Ready.

You can also create a disk while you create an instance. On the Create Instance form, under Storage > Other storage, the link to create a new dataset opens this same form. In it, Storage Type offers EOS BUCKET or DISK, and the disk fields are the same as here.

To use the disk, mount it on an instance. For help with a message, see Troubleshooting TIR Block Storage.
