Unmount a disk from an instance

Unmount a disk from an instance to free it for another instance, or before you delete it. The disk and its files stay as they were.

Before you begin

• A role that lets you update instances.
• Your work saved. Unmounting on a running instance restarts it, and a stopped instance applies the change at its next start.

Unmount the disk

1. Open the instance’s page and select the Associated Datasets tab.
2. Clear the tick next to the disk. Reset clears all your picks.
3. Select Update.
4. Tick Are you sure you want to continue updating datasets? and select Update again.

Check the result

The disk loses its Mounted label on the Associated Datasets tab, and it stays in your Block Storage (Disk Dataset) list with its files. You can mount it on another instance or delete it. For help with a message, see Troubleshooting TIR Block Storage.
