Create an AI Labs course

Create a course to collect the material for one subject in one place. A course holds modules of files for each part of it, the learners who take it, and a shared dataset when everyone needs the same data.

Make sure that you are an Admin or a Professor of the organization, and that the learners are already members of the organization. Have the course files, such as lecture PDFs, slides, or notes, ready on your computer.

  1. In the organization, open Courses and select the option to add a course.
  2. Enter the Course name. It can have up to 50 characters: letters, digits, spaces, underscores, and hyphens, starting and ending with a letter or a digit. Each course in the organization needs a different name.
  3. Enter a description of up to 2,000 characters.
  4. Enter the Professor details: a title (Prof., Dr., Mr., Mrs., or Ms.) and a name of up to 50 letters and spaces.
  5. Create the course.

AI Labs also sets up the storage where the course’s module files are kept. To change the name, description, or Professor later, open the course and select Edit.

A module holds the files for one part of the course.

  1. Open the course and select Add Module.
  2. Enter a module name and choose the files to upload.
  3. Select Add.

The module appears in the course’s Courseware. Learners on the course can view the modules and download their files.

Only the learners you add can open the course.

  1. Open the course and select its Settings tab.
  2. Choose how to add learners:
    • By Group adds every learner in the groups you choose. Use it for a whole class.
    • By Student mail adds the learners whose email addresses you enter. Use it for a few people.
  3. Confirm.

Learners now find the course under Courses. See View your courses and course material. To take a learner off the course, remove them on the same Settings tab.

Create a shared dataset when every learner needs the same data, such as a training set.

  1. Open the course and select its Shared Datasets tab.
  2. Select Create Dataset.
  3. Enter a name of up to 50 characters and confirm.

Every learner on the course can mount the shared dataset on their instances. It is listed apart from each learner’s own datasets.

Delete a course from its page when it is over. First ask learners to unmount the course’s shared dataset from their instances. While it is mounted, AI Labs keeps the course and shows Unable to delete course as one or more shared storage is mounted on notebook. The same applies when you remove one learner from the course: ask the learner to unmount the dataset first.

Point your learners to the learner guide. To see what they launch and how much GPU capacity the course uses, see Monitor an organization. For a message about a name or a mounted dataset, see Troubleshooting AI Labs.
