Back up a WordPress site to E2E Object Storage

View as Markdown

WordPress usually runs on a node; this covers backing it up to Object Storage with UpdraftPlus, a WordPress plugin for scheduled backups. You need a bucket and an access key with Bucket Writer access first; see Generate an access key. UpdraftPlus needs WordPress 3.9 or later.

In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins, search for UpdraftPlus, click Install Now, then Activate.

Go to Settings > UpdraftPlus Backups > Settings, scroll to Remote Storage, and choose S3-Compatible Generic. Enter your access key and secret key, your bucket name under S3 Location, and your region’s endpoint under S3 Endpoint: objectstore.e2enetworks.net for Delhi, or the Chennai endpoint from S3 compatibility for one there. Click Test S3 Settings to confirm it connects, then save.

From the Backup/Restore tab, click Backup Now with Send this Backup to Remote Storage checked. Once it finishes, the backup appears in your bucket: open the bucket’s Objects tab in MyAccount to see the files UpdraftPlus uploaded.

To restore, click Restore next to a backup, then choose which parts to bring back: files, database, or both. Restoring replaces what the site holds now with the backup’s copy.

UpdraftPlus can also run backups on a schedule from its own Settings tab. To keep old ones from piling up in the bucket, see Set a lifecycle rule.
