Share an object with a presigned URL

View as Markdown

A presigned URL grants time-limited access to one object, for a download or an upload, without sharing your access key or making the bucket public.

Open the bucket’s Actions menu (or an object version’s own menu, for one specific version) and select Generate Presigned URL. Choose the type:

  • Download lets whoever has the link retrieve the object.
  • Upload lets whoever has the link add a new object at that path.

Set an expiry from 1 second to 7 days, then click Generate URL.

The URL appears in the dialog. It is the object’s address followed by a long signature, and looks like this:

https://objectstore.e2enetworks.net/<bucket-name>/<object-name>?X-Amz-Algorithm=AWS4-HMAC-SHA256&X-Amz-Credential=...&X-Amz-Expires=86400&X-Amz-Signature=...

Copy the whole URL and send it however you would share any link. To check it, open it in a private browser window: a download link opens or downloads the file with no sign-in.

Until it expires, the link works for anyone who has it, including anyone it is forwarded to, so for anything sensitive choose the shortest expiry that works. Once it expires, it stops working; generate a new one if you need more time.

To share a whole bucket instead, see Make a bucket public. If generating the URL fails with an expiry error, see Troubleshooting E2E Object Storage.
