A volume can move to another project of the same account, where you can attach it to a node in that project. Its snapshots go with it, and a committed volume keeps its committed plan. The volume stays in the same region, and its data is unchanged.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”- You are the account owner, or you have the Admin or Project Lead role in the volume’s project; Move To Another Project appears for those roles. See Choose a role for a user.
- The account has a second project to move the volume to. See Create a project.
- The volume is Available and carries no tags. If it is attached, detach it from its node; see Detach a volume from a node. To remove any tags, see Tag a resource. Check both before you start, because MyAccount gives no reason when a volume is not ready to move.
To move an attached volume together with its node, move the node instead: the volumes attached to a node go with it. See Move a node to another project.
Move the volume
Section titled “Move the volume”- Open Storage > Volumes. Move To Another Project is on this list only, not on a node’s Volumes tab.
- Open the volume’s Actions menu and click Move To Another Project.
- In Move Volume to Another Project, choose the target project in Select Project, which offers every project in the account apart from the one the volume is in now.
- Turn on the checkbox that confirms the volume and the project. When Transfer becomes available, click it.
The volume leaves this project’s Volumes list, and MyAccount shows Resource is transferred successfully. If MyAccount refuses the move, the volume has not moved; see Troubleshooting Volumes.
Use the volume in the target project
Section titled “Use the volume in the target project”Switch to the target project from the project list in the header to see the volume and its snapshots there. See Create a project. The move is recorded in the audit logs of both projects; see Read the audit log.
Next, attach the volume to a node in its new project; see Attach a volume to a node.
