Troubleshooting Committed Nodes and Plan Conversion
Most compute plans on E2E MyAccount are billed by the hour, but discounted committed plans (typically 30-day or 365-day commitments) are available for many node families. Committed nodes have specific lifecycle rules around renewal, termination, and conversion that differ from hourly nodes — this guide covers the questions those rules generate.
Common Committed Node Issues
| Issue | What to do |
|---|---|
| Convert to Committed Node is missing | The node family or plan may not support committed billing. Contact sales to request a committed plan for the family. |
| Upgrade Node Plan is rejected | The node must be Powered Off before the upgrade. Also check Action Availability for other gates. |
| Auto-Renewal renewed the wrong plan | The plan that renews is whichever committed plan was active at period end. Switch to the target committed plan before the current period ends so the new plan is the one auto-renewed next time. |
| Account was charged in full on launch | Expected. Committed nodes deduct the full committed-period cost at launch. Postpaid customers see the full charge in the next bill. |
| Data lost after Auto Termination | Auto Termination deletes the node and all attached backups. Always save an image before Auto Termination fires. E2E Networks is not responsible for data loss in this scenario. |
How Committed Billing Works
- Committed plans give a lower effective rate in exchange for committing to a fixed period (30 days, 365 days, etc.).
- Infrastructure credits for the committed node are deducted in full as soon as the node is launched. Postpaid customers are billed the full cost on the next bill.
- Not every node family supports committed billing. Sales can provision committed plans for additional families on request.
- A node launched on an hourly plan can be converted to a committed plan; the inverse (committed → hourly) happens automatically at the end of the committed period if you elect Hourly Billing.
Converting an Hourly Node to a Committed Node
-
Open Manage Nodes.
-
Select the node to convert.
-
Click Actions → Convert to Committed Node.
-
Pick a committed plan from the dropdown.
-
Tick the acknowledgment checkbox in the confirmation message.
-
Click Convert.
Conversion takes a few minutes; you receive an email when it completes. Once converted, you can update committed node settings (auto-renewal, hourly billing, or auto-termination).
Committed Node Settings (End-of-Period Behavior)
A committed node launches in Auto-Renew mode by default. You can change this setting at any time — the new setting only takes effect after the current committed period ends.
To change end-of-period behavior:
- Go to Manage Nodes.
- Select the committed node.
- Click Actions → Committed Node Settings.
The three options:
Auto-Renewal (default)
At the end of the current committed period, the same committed plan renews automatically. You can switch to a different committed plan before the period ends, but the new plan only activates after the current one expires.
A committed node can be terminated before the commitment period ends; however, any deducted amount is non-refundable.
Hourly Billing
At the end of the current committed period, the node switches to an hourly billing rate. Once it is on hourly billing, you can terminate the node at any time.
Auto Termination
At the end of the current committed period, the node is automatically deleted along with all attached backups. All data is permanently removed.
Strongly recommended: save an image of the node before Auto Termination fires. E2E Networks is not responsible for data lost via auto-termination.
Upgrading a Committed Node Plan
To upgrade a committed node to a higher plan:
1. Power Off the Node
The node must be powered off before an upgrade can be initiated.
2. Trigger the Upgrade
Open Actions → Upgrade Node Plan.
Pick a plan from the listed higher-configuration plans.
3. Review and Confirm
A confirmation popup will list the required upgrade details. Review them and click Upgrade.
4. Wait for Completion
During the upgrade, the node state changes to Upgrading. When it returns to Running on the new plan, the upgrade is complete.
